Get to know this service
Body Positive Dorset is a registered charity founded in 1986 to support people living with or affected by HIV, regardless of sexual orientation. It offers advice, practical support, counselling, life coaching and information.
A support worker is available during opening hours to give one to one help with day to day living, benefit claims and assessments, and emotional support. The charity also aims to raise awareness and promote prevention through community education.
Founded by Philip Hawkings as a mutual support group, the charity grew to open a drop-in centre in Bournemouth in 1994. It later worked closely with other HIV organisations and received National Lottery funding in 1997.
Facing financial difficulties, the charity sold its long-time premises in 2019 and moved to a new home at 27 St Michael's Road, Bournemouth, opening on World AIDS Day that year.
