Get to know this service

Fresh Grassroots Rainbow Community is a non-profit organisation that supports Black, Asian and other LGBTQIA+ refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. It began as a peer support group, launched by two friends during a pandemic in response to a rising number of LGBTQIA+ people seeking asylum who needed practical support.

The group provides practical support with day-to-day running, and stands with members through the process of getting settlement and integrating into UK society. It has grown to include members across cities including Birmingham, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield, Stoke on Trent, Manchester, Coventry, Nottingham, Bolton, London and Wigan.

Run by volunteers, the organisation relies on donations and external funding. It has held in-person gatherings such as a garden party in Halifax, and members have taken part in Manchester Pride's Equality March with wristbands provided by Manchester Pride.
