Get to know this service
St Columba's United Reformed Church in Oxford has served the local community, students and visitors for over a century. Its congregation includes students, families and professionals, and it provides a safe and caring environment for the LGBTQIA+ community, the lonely and the homeless. The church works with other Oxford churches, including the Oxford Winter Night Shelter.
Since 2022, the church has employed Chrissie Chevasutt as its Outreach and Development Worker with transgender, intersex and non-binary people. This role includes pastoral care and support for individuals, plus guidance for other churches wanting to better understand and welcome transgender and gender non-conforming people. Holly joined the team in Autumn 2023, supporting the outreach team's operations and events.
The United Reformed Church's 2023 General Assembly passed resolutions affirming the dignity of transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming people and supporting their right to live free from violence and hatred. St Columba's endorsed these resolutions in full, as confirmed at its church meeting in November 2025.
