Get to know this service

The Lavender Cafe Orchestra provides inclusive opportunities for LGBTQIA+ people, and the wider community, to practise and perform music and dance. It offers a safe space for rehearsals and performances.

The orchestra raises awareness of discrimination towards LGBTQIA+ people through its work and performances, and promotes social inclusion. It aims to educate the wider population about LGBTQIA+ issues.

The group plays live dance music, including Latin, ballroom and sequence dancing, at LGBTQIA+ community events across Yorkshire and beyond. It hosts regular events such as tea dances and balls, including dance classes for those wanting to learn the steps.

The Lavender Cafe Orchestra is a UK charity, and is run on a non-profit basis, with money raised covering rehearsal space, venue hire and fair pay for DJs and technicians.

About

The Lavender Cafe Orchestra is a 20-strong orchestra playing live dance music for LGBTQIA+ communities and the wider community at tea dances and balls.
