Get to know this service

Brighton Ourstory is a registered charity that collects and preserves the history of Brighton's lesbian, gay and bisexual communities. It keeps safe the family albums of these communities.

The charity documents how generations of gay people have survived and thrived in a hostile world, living alongside heterosexuals. Its work traces how this gradually produced the degree of tolerance seen today.

Its website gives a brief outline of Brighton's queer past, covering historical accounts of same-sex relationships and activities from the 18th to the 20th century. Brighton Ourstory is also able to give limited assistance to researchers.

The project has now come to an end, but it has left behind a legacy of historical records.

About

Brighton Ourstory collects memories and tells stories, preserving the history of lesbian, gay and bisexual communities in Brighton.
