Get to know this service
OurStory Scotland is a registered Scottish charity that collects, archives and presents the life stories and experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community in Scotland. It conducts and records individual and group interviews, and collects written episodes.
The organisation's oral history work covers all ages, including older people, whose stories show changes in the situation of LGBTQIA+ people over their lifetime. It also collects images, artefacts and research materials.
It presents its heritage through the arts, including exhibitions, storytelling and drama, and holds or attends events where it shares extracts from its archive. It also provides training on oral history recording.
Its archive is held across various institutions depending on the type of material. To widen access, it has created podcasts that are publicly available.
OurStory Scotland is open to all supporters of its aims, regardless of gender, sexuality, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, culture and community.
